After a 4-year Legal Battle, Monsanto Drops Lawsuit Against Mexico’s GM Corn Ban
In what is being called a significant victory for Mexico, Monsanto has withdrawn its legal challenge against the 2020 presidential decree aimed at banning glyphosate and genetically modified (GM) corn for human consumption. The National Council of Humanities, Sciences and Technologies (Conahcyt) heralded the decision as “a triumph for life, health and food sovereignty.”

Fair Prices for Farmers
There is a massive misunderstanding in blaming group certification for the lower prices that undercut US organic growers. A campaign to ensure ‘Fair prices for Family Farmers’ is urgently needed. The organic sector needs to partner with our like-minded allies to develop and run this campaign. Consumers and traders must actively support their local and national organic farmers by paying fair prices rather than the lowest price for their products.

Farm Like Our Health Depends On it
While these titans of US agriculture rhetorically embrace what they call regenerative farming, a funny thing is happening in the Corn Belt, the region where they exert the most influence. It’s where their seeds and pesticides fuel bumper corn and soybean harvests that suffuse our food system, and where factory-like barns and feedlots transform that bounty into the cheap pork, beef, and eggs that underpin our diet.

Rewarding Farmers for Regenerative Agriculture Is ‘Critical for Decarbonising the Food Sector’
While lacking in scientific definition, regenerative agriculture is an approach that reduces the use of water and chemicals, prevents land degradation and deforestation, and restores and enhances soil, water, biodiversity and carbon on and around farms. With half of food system emissions , opens new tab down to agricultural production and land-use change in corporate value chains, food brands have an outsized role in food system transformation.
