Wow! That end of season scenario was unexpected. Sitting down in front of the TV with my dad, I did not expect what was about to come. My dad placed a £10 bet on us winning and Brentford and Fulham both losing, to end up winning £2,000. That didn’t happen.
The game started with Rangers on the back burner as West Brom applied pressure to our backline. I could only assume that most Rangers fans were intently checking their phones for scores at Griffin Park and the DW Stadium.
Then, Manning leathers that beauty into the bottom corner. Brentford fans must have been running to their fridges to get tub after tub of beer. I myself was bricking it.
Then Callum Styles leathers a beauty into the bottom corner and Fulham are losing. My dad rushes to his laptop to try and cash in on his bet potentially worth £2000.
He didn’t get there in time as Grady Diangana made it 1-1 in first half stoppage time. Brentford out of the top 2 for definite, Fulham nowhere to be seen.
Then they go 2-1 up through Callum Robinson, and we were getting absolutely torn apart in the first 15 minutes. Neeskens Kebano then equalises for Fulham to make it interesting.
But then Ebere Eze, jeezus h. What a goal. He just lifts it over the ‘keeper after a satisfying cross field ball from Barbet.
Nothing much happens from there on in.
However, with the game petering out towards a 2-2 draw, at around 9.20pm, I hear something odd. My gut instinct is to check the scores. So I go and do just that. I check the scores at the DW and at Griffin Park. Still the same as last time. However, I re-refresh the homepage to see that BARNSLEY HAD SCORED. CLARKE ODUOR HAD SAVED BARNSLEY FROM RELEGATION WHILST ALSO DESTROYING BRENTFORD’S CHANCE OF THE AUTOMATICS. My gaff goes absolutely crazy. The R Gen Twitter group goes crazy. I run into the garden and run around like a lunatic and laugh and laugh and laugh. My socials go bananas. I go bananas. Everyone starts to take the mickey out of Brentford. I joined in. My 2020 has peaked.
Brentford bottle automatics. It was there for the taking, and they blew it! Don’t you just love to see it?!
Over and out. Thanks MW for a great season.
